Skilak Lake can be accessed from the Sterling Highway by exiting on Skilak Lake Road. There are two primary access points allowing for both car and boat access to the lake.

The first is Lower Skilak Lake Campground and is accesed via a well marked turnoff at mile 13.6 of Skilak Lake Road.

The second is Upper Skilak Lake Campground and is accesed via the turnoff at mile 8.4 of Skilak Lake Road alongside Lower Ohmer Lake. Both roads are well maintained year round.
